In Brazil, LD Celulose S.A., a joint venture between Duratex S.A. and Austria-headed Lenzing Group, has awarded Pöyry, part of ÅF-Pöyry (AFRY), with an engineering, procurement, construction management (EPCM) assignment for the balance of plant (BOP) of the pulp mill that will have an annual capacity to produce 500 000 tonnes of dissolving pulp. Completion of the US$1.3 billion project is scheduled for 2022.

Pöyry has been working as LD Celulose´s partner prior to the joint venture was formed, being responsible for conceptual and basic engineering development, detailed infrastructure engineering projects, external logistics studies, and developing area projects, as well as supporting the project’s environmental licensing process.
The services provided by Pöyry, part of AFRY, include interconnections between all process areas, turbo generators and steam distribution systems, the water cooling center, and other complementary systems.
Luís Künzel, CEO of LD Celulose emphasizes that the new dissolving pulp plant will bring a positive socioeconomic impact throughout the region.

The LD Celulose new plant will be installed in Duratex’s forest area, located in Triângulo Mineiro, state of Minas Gerais (MG), and all production will be destined for exportation, supplying Lenzing Group’s operations in Europe and Asia.
