Agilyx developing its first styrene monomer production facility in Oregon

In the United States (US), Agilyx Corporation an environmental technology and development company located in Tigard, Oregon (OR), has announced that it has secured project financing and is proceeding with the construction of a 10 tonnes-per-day production facility near Portland, Oregon that converts polystyrene (PS) waste such as foam cups, packaging materials, and styrofoam into styrene monomer using its proprietary commercial pyrolysis system.

With this project development launch, Agilyx expands its commercial applications to include its first waste polystyrene pyrolysis plant. The plant is targeted to be producing styrene in Q2 2017. The Agilyx chemical recycling technology returns polystyrene waste to its highest value – a styrene monomer product that can be blended into the virgin styrene manufacturing cycle.

According to the company, it has developed the first system capable of recycling single-use polystyrene items into a styrene monomer, which is then used to remake polystyrene (PS). Agilyx has also commercialized a technology that converts mixed plastics to high-quality Vacuum Gas Oil (VGO) crude. its proprietary process is greenhouse gas (GHG) “favourable” over traditional styrene manufacturing.

Agilyx is working with waste service providers, municipalities, refiners, and private and public enterprises to develop closed-loop industrial solutions for mixed waste plastics.
