The Argentine Government has expressed its rejection of the US Department of Commerce (DOC) imposition of preliminary countervailing duties (CVD) on imports of biodiesel from Argentina and said that will seek to reverse the preliminary decision, evaluate "all available options" and reserve the right to carry out "pertinent legal actions."
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship expressed its rejection of the DOC’s imposition of preliminary countervailing duties (CVD) on biodiesel imports from Argentina, suggesting that the preliminary decision was the result of research being conducted by private biodiesel producers in the US.
Argentine exports of biodiesel, an export with added value and promoted by the environmental standards in force in the most developed countries, derive their success from the recognized competitiveness of the soybean chain in our country, said the Ministry.
The Ministry stated that it together with the “national private sector” concerned, cooperates fully with the ongoing research and recalls that at “the multilateral trade level” it has been established that Argentina does not grant subsidies to the production of biodiesel.
In addition, the Ministry expressed its rejection of “the magnitude” of the preliminary CVD imposed, above 50 percent, which in the present circumstances it said “do not correspond to any objective research or methodology acceptable” from the point of view of World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
Argentina will seek to reverse this preliminary decision, defending the interest of our country, evaluate all available options and reserve the right to carry out the pertinent legal actions, the Ministry cautioned.
