Clothing recycler UFF to use Neste MY Renewable Diesel in its logistics chain
U-landshjälp från Folk till Folk i Finland rf (UFF), a Finnish non-profit social organisation that generates funding through the collection and sale of second-hand clothes is the latest domestic organisation to strike an "MY Renewable Diesel" supply partnership agreement with Finland-headed oil refiner and renewable fuel producer Neste.
A member of the international charity consortium Humana People to People, UFF’s activities include domestic environmental services, support for development cooperation in Africa and India, and providing information on environmental and global development. Funds are generated by financial partnerships for development programmes and through the sale of second-hand clothes which UFF collects nationwide with its logistics chain.
Launched in January 2017 and produced entirely from waste and residues, Neste’s MY Renewable Diesel will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced in UFF’s logistics chain.
In addition to supporting sustainable development, reducing the effects of climate change is also a cornerstone of our organization’s work. It is very natural for us to start using Neste MY Renewable Diesel, which is a fuel innovation that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 90 percent. Up until now no similar solution has been available at all, so we are very excited about this partnership, said Virve Kivi, CEO for UFF in a statement.
According to Neste, MY Renewable Diesel can be used in all diesel vehicles without having to make any modifications, and it is completely compatible with all current diesel grades. It can be added to the fuel tank even if there is some traditional fossil diesel still in the tank.
In terms of all of its properties, it is better than or at least as good as the world’s leading conventional fossil diesel brands but much more environmentally sound with cleaner combustion, reduced engine noise and local emissions.
We are delighted that UFF has selected Neste MY Renewable Diesel as the fuel for its logistics chain. This will enable UFF to gain its benefits straight away,” says Sam Holmberg, Vice President for Neste’s Marketing and Services business area in Finland.
In collecting clothes for recycling and reuse, UFF clocks up about 0.8 -0.9 million kilometres annually with its own vehicles.
We believe that all responsible individuals and companies who donate clothes to UFF appreciate that our logistics chain also works ecologically. Using Neste MY Renewable Diesel will further reinforce the positive climate effects of recycling garments, ended Virve Kivi.
