Asia Biogas Singapore Pte Ltd (Asia Biogas) has announced that it has acquired control of Thai Biogas Energy Company Ltd (TBEC). The merger has been approved by the shareholders of both companies and Asia Biogas has taken over management of TBEC with immediate effect. The deal is expected to close before the end of the year. After completion, the combined business will have 12 operating projects in three countries and revenues in excess of US$10 million making it the largest biogas group in the region.

– We are very excited to conclude the merger with TBEC, a business with a great track record which we have admired for some time. We will strengthen our Thai business, giving us a leading position in the market which we will use to further expand in the region. We have a strong focus on growing in Indonesia and Malaysia where opportunities have started to open up. TBEC’s experience in converting Palm Oil waste into energy is complementary to ours and gives us a huge competitive advantage to deliver dependable solutions to the sector, greatly reducing its environmental impacts, while providing a source of clean, flexible, renewable energy, said Des Godson, CEO of Asia Biogas.

Pipeline projects in development by both Asia Biogas and TBEC will continue to be developed by Asia Biogas. The group expects to commence construction on three to four new projects in 2017. Asia Biogas will also continue to offer clients turnkey EPC solutions in Thailand and design and build solutions across the region. The twelve operating projects within the new group will come under a common management team.

Asia Biogas was founded in 1999 when it started to build biogas projects to turn animal waste into energy at large commercial farms in Thailand and Philippines. To date Asia Biogas has over 90 reference projects and has developed a global reputation as a leading biogas technology and process design provider. In 2015 it delivered its first design for a project in Europe.

TBEC is an award-winning biogas company headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand. Founded in 2003 TBEC has developed and built eight projects in Thailand and one project in Laos. The projects operate at cassava and palm oil processing factories.
