Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) has been awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to deliver Ferrybridge Multifuel 2 (FM2) by UK energy major SSE Plc. It is reported to be Europe’s largest energy-from-waste (EfW) plant undertaken by an individual contractor.
Swiss-based technology company Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) has announced that it has been awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to deliver Europe’s largest energy-from-waste (EfW) plant undertaken by an individual contractor. UK energy major SSE plc awarded the contract to HZI to build Ferrybridge Multifuel 2 (FM2) on land owned by SSE at Ferrybridge ‘C’ Power Station near Knottingley in West Yorkshire. The new project is worth a total of over CHF 360 million. Site preparation work for the 70 MWe plant is underway, with the first waste fire expected in 2018.
FM2 follows on from the successful completion and handover of the first EfW plant, the 70 MWe Ferrybridge Multifuel 1 (FM1), in August 2015. The £300 million FM1 plant is owned and operated by Multifuel Energy Ltd (MEL), a 50:50 joint venture (JV) between SSE and Wheelabrator Technologies Inc. Both FM1 and FM2 each have a permit to treat up to 675 000 tonnes per annum of municipal solid waste (MSW), commercial and industrial (C&I) waste and waste wood.
