Canfor Pulp temporarily curtailing Taylor BCTMP Mill
In Canada, Canfor Pulp Products Inc., a subsidiary of forest products major Canfor Corporation (Canfor) has announced it will be temporarily curtailing operations at its Taylor Pulp Mill, a bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) mill in Taylor, British Columbia (BC) from June 29 through August 5, 2019, due to a combination of weaker market conditions and short-term fibre constraints resulting from industry-wide sawmill curtailments in the BC Interior.
According to a statement, the curtailment will reduce Canfor Pulp’s production output by approximately 25,000 tonnes of BCTMP. Canfor Pulp has currently three northern bleached softwood kraft pulp mills, one BCTMP mill, and one kraft paper mill in BC.
Earlier this month, Canfor announced it will be curtailing operations at all BC sawmills, except WynnWood during the summer period citing very poor lumber markets and the high cost of fibre, which it says are making the operating conditions in BC uneconomic.
