The European Commission’s (EC) “Fit for 55″ package, announced on July 14, 2021, aims to put the European Union (EU) on track towards climate neutrality. Yet energy accounts for some 75 percent of Europe’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

As revealed during the Special Edition WSED/EPC 2021, in the European residential space heating and cooling sector alone, there are still over 17 million oil-fired units in operation. As a carbon dioxide (CO2) neutral fuel, sustainable bioenergy is a key pillar for decarbonization.

Wood pellets are a well-proven fuel that can replace oil in residential heating applications such as domestic stoves and boilers, and district heating plants.

According to the organizers, the 2022 European Pellet Conference aims to show how firing up pellet markets can boost the energy transition and how to position pellets as an important climate solution. More than 40 speakers from all over the world will offer up-to-date information on markets, policies, products, technologies, financing, business models, research, and case studies.

Pre-event technical site visits offer first-hand information on fuels, equipment, and exemplary installations from users and technology providers. The concurrent “WEBUILD Engergiesparmesse Wels“, a major tradeshow on renewable energy, will host over 100 pellet-related exhibitors. The call for papers and speaker proposal submissions is open until October 12, 2021.
