Zilkha drops Monticello black pellet plant plans
In Arkansas, the United States, local media have reported that US "black" pellet producer Zilkha Biomass Energy Inc., has dropped its plan to invest and build a black pellet plant in Monticello, Arkansas.
According to Monticello Live, Zilkha’s plans for a greenfield black pellet mill plant in Monticello have been cancelled. Originally announced by Zilkha in July 2014, the company was planning to invest US$90 million to build a commercial-scale plant utilising its proprietary steam exploded process to produce an advanced biomass pellet with coal-like properties.
The company had acquired just over 80 acres of industrial development land from the University of Arkansas at Monticello for the project, land which Zilkha now forfeits and that will revert back to Monticello Economic Development Commission (MEDC) according to the Commission briefing July 12.
