Praj Industries has announced it has been contracted by Kakira Sugars to supply key process technologies for a multi-product distillery project producing fuel ethanol as well as premium grade beverage alcohol in Uganda.
India-based global process solutions company Praj Industries has announced it has been contracted by Kakira Sugars to supply key process technologies for a multi-product distillery project producing fuel ethanol as well as premium grade beverage alcohol in Uganda. Kakira Sugars is a leading sugar and power producer in Uganda and part of the diversified Madhvani Group, one of the largest private-sector groups in East Africa. The new plant will process cane molasses from the Kakira Sugar Mill for the production of fuel ethanol and premium grade beverage alcohol.
According to a statement Praj will provide key technologies for fermentation, distillation and effluent treatment, of which the latter includes biogas from anaerobic digestion and digestate composting. The project will be supplied on an engineer, procure and construct (EPC) basis including the boiler, turbine, water treatment plant, laboratory and auxiliary packages. All of the process steam and 50-60 percent of the electricity needed for the plant will be generated by the distillery itself. The biocompost will be used for renewing soil fertility. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.
