Finland-headed biomass combustion solutions provider Renewa Oy has announced two Finnish project contracts in a short space of time, an 8 MW district heat plant boiler for energy utility Alajärven Lämpö Oy and a 6 MW process steam boiler for dairy producer Valio Oy.
The order from Alajärven Lämpö will support its expansion to meet the increased demand of renewable heat in the Alajärvi district heat network. It is the third boiler supplied to the company by Renewa and it will use biomass and sod peat as fuel. The scope of supply consists of an 8 MW thermal output “ReneGrate” grate-boiler with accessories, ash handling, multi-cyclone for flue gas treatment and stack. The order value has not been disclosed.
– We appreciate the long-term co-operation with Alajärven Lämpö that also supports our joint efforts in this time critical project. The new plant will be commissioned for commercial use in late 2016, revealed Jari Ainali, CEO, Renewa Oy.
Replace HFO
For Valio, the largest milk processing company in Finland, Renewa will deliver a 6 MW steam plant to its Jyväskylä facility in co-operation with the Finnish peat and wood pellet major Vapo Oy. Vapo has an existing energy service contract with Valio Jyväskylä and will supply the biomass fuel locally.
– Co-operation between Valio and Vapo started years ago and was extended in early 2016 when Valio selected us as its energy service provider also in Jyväskylä. The decision to invest in a new bioenergy plant was taken at the same time, said Markus Hassinen, Business Director at Vapo.
With the investment, the value of which has not been disclosed, it can replace two heavy fuel oil (HFO) fired boilers currently used for the production of saturated process steam production for the milk processing line and Valio will reduce its carbon footprint significantly.
– Valio´s target for co-operation with Vapo and Renewa is to reach more energy efficient and sustainable milk processing at Jyväskylä dairy. It is important for us use energy production solutions that guarantee a secure supply of steam to our production processes, commented Peter Fabritius, Energy Director at Valio Oy.
To be supplied as a turnkey delivery the steam plant solution is based on ReneFluid bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boiler combined with a steam accumulator that ensures the on-time delivery of the process steam to the dairy process. According to Kari Liukko, Sales and Marketing Director at Renewa, engineering of the plant has started and it will be commissioned during spring 2017.
