Andritz to supply non-condensable gases incineration system to Project STAR
Austria-headed international technology group major Andritz AG has announced that it has received an order from Bracell Group to supply the non-condensable gases (NCG) incineration system on an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) basis for Bracell’s Project STAR dissolving pulp mill expansion in Lençóis Paulista, in the state of São Paulo (SP), Brazil.
In July 2019, Bracell Group, which is part of Singapore-based RGE, presented details of the R$7 billion (≈ EUR 1.66 billion) expansion known as Project STAR to increase the production capacity of dissolving pulp underway in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
Site preparation work on the former Lwarcel plant, located in Lençóis Paulista, São Paulo (SP), began in April 2019. Once completed, the pulp mill will see its production capacity, primarily dissolving pulp, increase six-fold, from 250 000 tonnes per annum to 1.5 million tonnes.
The new mill will have a flexible line designed to primarily produce dissolving pulp and will feature best-in-class technology. Among the key innovations is a biorefinery that controls material inputs to maximize recycling, minimizes waste, and greatly reduces the environmental footprint, resulting in low water consumption, low emissions, and limited fossil fuels.
Meet the strictest environmental and social requirements
The NCG incineration system to be supplied by Andritz, the value of which has not been disclosed, will enable “safe and environmentally friendly treatment” of all types of diluted or concentrated malodorous and toxic gases, thus meeting the strictest environmental and social requirements.
The system is based on Andritz’s self-developed A-Recovery+ concept, which focuses on the use of the side streams in the recovery cycle. The gases are eliminated by quench-type incinerators with flue gas scrubbers.
According to Andritz, this latest order confirms the good relationship the company has with Bracell having already been selected as one of the main suppliers to the project.
