Andritz to supply PowerFluid CFB boiler for Ichihara biomass power plant
Austria-headed international technology group Andritz AG has announced that it has received an order from Toyo Engineering Corporation in Japan to deliver a PowerFluid circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler with a flue gas cleaning system. The boiler will be part of a new 75 MWe biomass power plant to be built in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, some 30 km southeast of Tokyo.
The PowerFluid CFB boiler to be supplied by Andritz, the value of which has not been disclosed, features low emissions, high efficiency, and availability, as well as high fuel flexibility. It forms an essential part of a high-efficiency biomass power plant for the supply of green energy to the national grid under the feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme.
The biomass power plant will be fired with wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS) as the main fuels. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in late 2023.
According to Andritz, this is the ninth order within three years for the supply of a PowerFluid CFB boiler to the Japanese market, and confirms the company’s comprehensive expertise and acknowledged competence in the biomass-fired fluidized bed (FB) boiler sector.
