Sappi Kirkniemi Mill employs roughly 550 people and the three paper lines produce around 750 000 tonnes per annum of high-quality coated mechanical paper. The mill also produces 300 000 tonnes per annum of bleached mechanical pulp for self-consumption.

Recently, Sappi announced that it was investing to phase out the final use of coal at its Kirkniemi Mill. The new biomass fuel handling system will bring the existing multi-fuel boiler in line with current environmental
goals.

The boiler’s future fuel supply will consist of woody biomass such as forest residues and bark. BMH’s delivery will complement the existing infrastructure and incorporates also the feeding of Sappi Kirkniemi Mill’s own bark into the process.

The scope of supply consists of a fuel receiving station with two back unloading units for trucks, a fuel quality control station, silo storage with a rotating TYRANNOSAURUS screw reclaimer and all necessary fuel conveyors.

The delivery will be handed over to the customer during spring 2023.
