JFE Engineering receives order for OFI biomass co-fired power plant in Japan

Japan-headed engineering company, JFE Engineering Corporation (JFEE) has announced that it has been awarded an order by Ofunato Power Inc., for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of a 75MWe biomass co-fired power plant in Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan.

 According to a statement, JFEE will use a circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boiler from Finland-headed energy technology providers Valmet with which JFEE has a cooperation agreement with. The 75 MWe output plant will be constructed for OPI at the Taiheiyo Cement Corporation’s Ofunato plant site and is scheduled to commence commercial operations in 2019.

The plant with use palm kernel shell (PKS) and empty fruit bunches (EFB) along with a percentage of coal as fuel. The turbine island will be supplied by Toshiba.
