JGC selected as EPC for Ishinomaki Hibarino Biomass Plant project in Japan

In Japan, JGC Holdings Corporation has announced that its subsidiary JGC Japan Corporation which operates the domestic engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) business of the JGC Group has been awarded the EPC contract for the 74.9 MWe biomass power plant for Ishinomaki Hibarino Biomass Energy GK in Miyagi Prefecture.

The project is being led by compatriot developer and operator of renewable power plants RENOVA, Inc. and it is planned to use wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS) as fuel. The plant is scheduled to be operational in May 2023.

As the project financing is the responsibility of the client, the awarding of the contract is by JGC seen as reflecting on its “long and successful record” in completing a large number of plants and other facilities, both in Japan and overseas and RENOVA’s high evaluation of the company’s performance in the construction of mega-solar projects in Karumai, Kunohe, Iwate and elsewhere.
