Finnish green hydrogen and power-to-X technology provider P2X Solutions Oy has announced plans to build Finland’s first green hydrogen production plant in Harjavalta. When commissioned, the facility will produce green hydrogen for industrial needs by using electricity produced from renewable energy sources.
The planned production facility has a capacity of 20 MW as by-products of electrolysis, it will generate oxygen and thermal energy needed by industries.
According to the City of Harjavalta, the project is most welcome to the local industry, and it is seen as an important step in climate work on the way to reaching the city’s goal of carbon neutrality.
The City of Harjavalta welcomes P2X Solutions to join the city’s diverse, dynamic, and further developing Harjavalta Industrial Park. In Harjavalta, the process initiated by business services company Prizztech reaching out to P2X Solutions, is now leading to a great result. This project is an important stage on our way to an emission-free welfare society, said Hannu Kuusela, Mayor of Harjavalta.
The plant’s Front-end Engineering Design (FEED) was awarded to energy and infrastructure consultants Sweco in May 2021 and will be completed by the end of the year.
P2X Solutions has applied investment support from national grant mechanisms for the first plant.
The support decision is expected in autumn 2021, and an investment decision thereafter before the end of this year. Following a positive investment decision, the company will begin detailed planning and procurement of the Harjavalta plant.
Our project has attracted a lot of interest from all over Finland. Harjavalta is a natural choice for the location of our first plant, as it has proven to be a very business-friendly city with significant customer potential, also considering the important circular economy and close cooperation between industrial companies. Our project is progressing as planned in all respects, said Herkko Plit, CEO of P2X Solutions.
The goal is to start construction work in Harjavalta in autumn 2022 and to commission the plant in the first half of 2024.
In addition to the plant to be implemented in Harjavalta, P2X Solutions aims to promote the Finnish hydrogen economy with several production plants and possibly also replicate projects abroad.
