Finland-headed forest industry and energy technology major Valmet Oyj has announced that it will deliver a Valmet DNA Energy Management system to Nevel’s remote operation centre to improve energy production flexibility at the company’s Forssa district heating plant in Finland. The new system will be integrated with Nevel’s existing Valmet Distributed Control System (DCS). This solution will enhance energy production planning and enable the company to participate more profitably and flexibly in reserve markets by utilizing a new electric boiler.

Nevel is a Nordic utility infrastructure company that provides advanced, future-proof solutions for industry and real estate.

The company operates more than 130 energy production sites and over 40 district heating networks, producing 1.9 TWh of energy annually.

We selected Valmet because they truly understood our requirements and offered a solution that integrates smoothly with our existing Valmet DCS. The system can also be easily scaled to include other plants in addition to the Forssa district heating facility, while ensuring secure connectivity with third-party systems. Valmet’s experience with similar deliveries convinced us of their expertise, and the solution aligns perfectly with our strategy to engage more actively in reserve markets, said Tuure Laurila, Operation Center Manager at Nevel.

The delivery, the value of which has not been disclosed, includes the Valmet DNA Energy Management System, which will be integrated with the existing Valmet Distributed Control System and will be taken over by Nevel in Spring 2026.

It also covers Automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve (aFFR) integration and connectivity.

According to Valmet, this project further strengthens its role as a leader in energy management technologies, helping customers optimize production and improve the efficiency of their energy operations.

This delivery for our long-standing customer Nevel showcases Valmet’s ability to provide scalable solutions for customers of various types and sizes. Drawing on extensive experience, Valmet delivers real value improvements in every case. I’m proud to see how our solutions help customers enhance their operations, even in today’s challenging and rapidly changing market environment, said Teijo Salonpää, Senior Sales Manager, Automation Solutions business area, Valmet.
