The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) has announced that the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has accepted the RSPO as a "private control system" for the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in the Netherlands.
Private control systems assist the NVWA with prioritising their monitoring tasks. Independent systems, such as the RSPO, that have a process for audits and certification, contribute value in assessing self-monitoring and legal compliance of member companies.
The full list of accepted private control systems is available on the NVWA website.
RSPO-certified shipments could potentially be eligible for “modified supervision”, meaning that the NVWA would conduct less frequent and shorter inspections.
According to RSPO, its acceptance as a private control system by the NVWA marks the beginning of “stronger relations between our two organisations.”
