Kiruna Kraft to divest Vittangi heat plant

In Sweden, municipal utilities company Tekniska Verken i Kiruna AB has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Kiruna Kraft AB has reached an agreement to sell its district heat plant in Vittangi to local company AF Rör.

According to a statement, the agreement will secure district heating in Vittangi while Kiruna Kraft can focus on Kiruna’s energy solutions.

With a local presence, the business will continue to develop with proximity to customers.

We believe that it is important to focus our resources on the continued development of energy solutions in Kiruna. At the same time, we want to ensure a continued safe and stable district heating supply in Vittangi. Therefore, we see it as positive that a local and committed player is taking over the operation of the heating plant, Kiruna Kraft said in a statement.

The sale takes place in connection with the current plant operations agreement with Vittangi Energi AB expires at the end of the year. During its time as operations manager, and has turned a loss into a positive result.

According to the agreement between Kiruna Kraft and Vittangi Energi, the company has now chosen not to continue operations after the end of the contract period.

AF Rör has extensive experience in energy and heating services and will be able to continue operating the business with good results and security for district heating customers.

We have great confidence in AF Rör and their expertise. It feels good that the heating plant can continue to develop with a local player who is close to the customers and wants to contribute to Vittangi’s development and a secure energy supply, said Ann-Cathrin Eklund, CEO of Tekniska Verken.
