Andritz to supply biomass-fired EcoFluid BFB boiler to Pori Energia, Finland

Austria-headed international technology group Andritz AG has recently announced that its Finnish subsidiary, Andritz Oy, has received an order from Finnish energy utility Pori Energia to deliver an EcoFluid bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boiler with flue gas cleaning system for an existing biomass power plant at Pori Energia’s Aittaluoto power plant. Start-up of the plant, which is located on the west coast of Finland, is scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.

According to a statement, Andritz’s scope of supply comprises engineering, erection work, and start-up of the fluidized bed boiler, including delivery of a flue gas cleaning system and other auxiliary equipment. The equipment and technologies to be supplied are “essential parts of a high-efficiency biomass power plant” for the supply of green energy to the national grid.

We are very proud to support Pori Energia in reaching its sustainability goals with our globally proven and advanced boiler technologies, said Kari Tuominen, President and CEO of Andritz Oy.

The new combined heat and power (CHP) plant will be fired with biomass, such as forest fuels and sawmill residues, and will generate power and district heating for more than 40 000 customers in the city of Pori. The value of the order has not been disclosed.

After start-up of the new plant, the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the Aittaluoto power plant will be reduced by 80 percent, remarked Matti Rintanen Managing Director of Pori Energia.
