Austria-headed international technology company Andritz AG (ANDRITZ) has announced that it has received an order from the French energy company Albioma SA to supply a waste-to-energy line for its Bois-Rouge power plant on the island of La Réunion.

Albioma is an independent renewable energy producer headquartered in Paris, France, with operations in Overseas France, Metropolitan France, Mauritius, Brazil, Canada, Australia and Türkiye.

The company is committed to supporting the energy transition by harnessing biomass, solar, and geothermal energy.

According to a statement, the new boiler line can treat up to 70,000 tonnes of high-calorific waste annually.

It will convert solid recovered fuel (SRF) from household waste into energy, thus supporting efforts in La Réunion to end landfilling and increase energy autonomy.

Our new line will enable us to use solid recovered fuel from a nearby waste sorting facility to generate electricity. This will divert waste from landfills and conserve fossil fuels, contributing to decarbonization and a more circular economy. It also makes the region more energy self-sufficient. We look forward to working with the highly experienced ANDRITZ team to implement this strategic project, said Pascal Langeron, Director of Albioma Indian Ocean.

ANDRITZ’s scope of supply includes the engineering and manufacture of a boiler with a thermal fuel input of 41.67 MW based on its FlexSol grate combustion system.

ANDRITZ will also be responsible for the commissioning. The new line the value of which has not been disclosed is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026.

It will replace some of the imported fuel used for power generation at the Bois-Rouge plant.
