In Finland, carbon dioxide curing technology developer Carbonaide Oy has announced that it is expanding its carbon dioxide partner network as compatriot gas distributor and biomethane producer Auris Energia Oy launches biogenic carbon dioxide capture at its Mäntsälä biogas plant.

Starting in 2027, the captured biogenic carbon dioxide (bioCO2) will be delivered into concrete production, where Carbonaide’s technology enables permanent storage and cement savings through carbon dioxide curing.

The project connects carbon capture directly to the built environment. BioCO2 generated during biogas-to-biomethane production will be captured, purified, and liquefied with technology provided by Suomen Biovoima.

Carbonaide utilizes and stores this bioCO2 through CO2 mineralization in concrete production in its client locations.

We are proud that our strong customer traction has finally materialized in biogenic carbon dioxide capturing in Finland. For that, we can thank both our clients and Auris. This collaboration with Auris also improves further scaling of our solution in Finland, said Jonne Hirvonen, COO of Carbonaide.

Finnish concrete producers pioneering CCM

Concrete manufacturers Lakka and Rakennusbetoni‑ ja Elementti are among the first Carbonaide clients to use Mäntsälä‑originated bioCO2 in their products.

This project initiates Finland’s biogenic carbon dioxide market and moves our industry toward lower emissions, said Juho Hiltunen, CEO of Lakan Betoni.

Through Carbonaide’s proprietary CO2 curing system, the captured carbon dioxide is mineralized into stable carbonates and locked permanently into concrete.

The result is cheaper, faster, stronger, and greener low-carbon concrete without changes to existing production lines.

It is encouraging to see domestic players developing the biogenic carbon dioxide market. Auris’s investment provides a strong foundation for expanding the range of products produced with Carbonaide technology and for accelerating the industry’s shift toward lower emissions, said Teemu Teno, CEO of Rakennusbetoni- ja Elementti.

From carbon capture to materialized impact

Auris Energia’s Mäntsälä facility produces approximately 3,500 tonnes of bioCO2 annually.

By integrating carbon capture with Carbonaide’s one‑stop solution, the carbon dioxide is no longer a by‑product but a raw material for concrete decarbonisation.

Carbonaide ensures that captured CO2 is permanently stored through an industrial mineralization process inside concrete products.

By connecting biogenic carbon dioxide capture sites, concrete producers, and carbon management into a single, scalable system, Carbonaide enables negative emissions in materials that are actually produced and used.

Biogenic carbon dioxide opens new opportunities for many industries. The solution we are implementing is based on Finnish expertise, said Håkan Jonsson, Business Development Manager at Auris Energia.
