In Sweden, biomass gasification technology developer Cortus Energy AB (Cortus) has disclosed that it has over the past weeks supplied syngas to a belt furnace at compatriot metal powder and powder products manufacturer Höganäs AB, for tuning the burner system ahead of upcoming operational tests.

According to Cortus, the fine-tuning has “gone well” and will be followed up with operation and training of operating personnel in the coming weeks.

The test delivery of syngas to a belt furnace at Höganäs is the first step in replacing fossil gas with biomass-derived syngas in Höganäs’s production within the framework of the collaboration that was started six years ago between Cortus and Höganäs.

We at Höganäs look forward with joy to the fact that we can soon start using green syngas continuously in our production and thus continue to reduce climate emissions, said Magnus Pettersson, Project Manager at Höganäs.

When training of operating personnel is complete and production is ready, the daytime tests can turn into long-term tests followed by continuous syngas deliveries.

This is a day of joy for us at Cortus and a reward after all the hardships that have been around our WoodRoll facility. We also want to express our gratitude to everyone at Höganäs AB for their great patience, said Rolf Ljunggren, founder and former CEO of Cortus Energy.

If everything goes as planned, this could begin in the second half of August this year.

After many thousands of hours of gasification in both Köping and Höganäs, our clean syngas can finally be used in an industrial process. I am mainly grateful to our employees, Höganäs AB, and our shareholders who have shown great patience for such a long time, without them this would not have been possible, said Marko Amovic, CTO of Cortus Energy.
