DMC Biotechnologies and SCG Chemicals execute ASEAN deal for L-alanine line

US biobased specialty chemical company DMC Biotechnologies Inc (DMC) has announced that it has executed an agreement with SCG Chemicals Co., Ltd, part of Thailand-headed SCG Group to bring DMC’s L-alanine and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) into the ASEAN markets.

“The SCG agreement is another validation of our technology and our progress towards the commercialization of our first wave of products. We are excited to partner with SCG and leverage their wide reach to distribute our products into the ASEAN region,” said Dr Matt Lipscomb, CEO, and Co-Founder of DMC (image courtesy Sustainability Consult).

Thailand-headed SCG is a leading business conglomerate in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The company has three business units – Cement Building Materials, Packaging, and Chemicals.

In the Packaging Business, SCG is a total packaging solutions provider and is integrated from the forest to the end product, while in the Chemicals Business, SCG is a manufacturer of HVA polymers and functional materials.

SCG was an investor in DMC’s Series A round in December 2019.

SCG is a leader in sustainable development and is working hard to respond to the global climate emergency. DMC has a new route to making more sustainable and affordable L-alanine and branched-chain amino acids. We are excited by the opportunity to bring these biobased, sustainable solutions to the region and to contribute to a more sustainable society, commented Suracha Udomsak, CTO and Emerging Business Director, Chemicals Business at SCG.
