ENplus, the world’s leading certification scheme for wood pellet quality, celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2025. Since its establishment in 2010, ENplus has played a defining role in shaping a reliable and transparent pellet market, ensuring that consumers and businesses can trust the quality of every certified pellet they use.
What began as a European initiative has grown into a truly international scheme, now certifying producers, traders, and service providers in about 50 countries, and is managed internationally by the European Pellet Council (EPC).
By setting clear standards and maintaining rigorous controls, ENplus has contributed to greater efficiency, confidence, and fairness in the global pellet supply chain.
Fifteen years ago, ENplus was launched with a simple but powerful goal: to ensure consistent, high-quality pellets for consumers. Today, the certification stands as a symbol of trust and professionalism across the industry. This is also reflected in the recognition of the European Cooperation for Accreditation, as ENplus is the only accredited scheme for wood pellet quality, said Elena Dumitru, Certification Director at ENplus.
Currently, over 1,300 companies across the entire pellet value chain hold ENplus certification, demonstrating the scheme’s widespread adoption and influence.
ENplus-certified pellets now represent around 75 percent of the European heating market, providing reliability and confidence to millions of end-users.
Committed to quality assurance

The success of the scheme is built on its unwavering commitment to quality assurance.
ENplus ensures consistent pellet performance and safety across all certified operations by regularly updating technical standards and auditing inspection procedures involving a multistakeholder approach.
Active fraud management, the introduction of a comprehensive digital database, and verification tools have further enhanced traceability, strengthening transparency and preventing fraud.
ENplus is known for its efforts to protect its trademark. Furthermore, income generated from the certification scheme is reinvested in the benefit of the bioenergy sector through the activities of the EPC and its members – the national pellet associations.
Alongside our partners – the national licensers, the national promoting associations, and the conformity assessment bodies – our mission has always been clear – to make pellet quality measurable, verifiable, and reliable. This 15th anniversary marks not only our success but also the trust of an entire industry built on quality assurance, Elena Dumitru added.
Celebratory activities
To celebrate the 15th anniversary, the management of the certification scheme has prepared several special activities.
A dedicated quiz will give away branded gifts to online users who prove to know the scheme well, and testimonials from certified companies and partners will be shared on social media.
The scheme will also support a social responsibility initiative – a project in Uganda that aims to replace old charcoal stoves for cooking with modern pellet-based ones.
