Austria-based BDI – BioEnergy International AG has held a groundbreaking ceremony in Austria for its algae biomass plant. "We are very proud that we have been able to bring once again a product of our R&D into industrial realization. By building this industrial plant, we can guarantee location-independent and cost-efficient production of valuable, high-quality algae products under optimal, environmentally friendly conditions" said Dr Edgar Ahn, Member of the Management Board.
BioEnergy International AG, a company mainly associated with customized biodiesel and industrial biogas plants has together with its wholly-owned subsidiary BDI – BioLife Science GmbH held a groundbreaking ceremony in Ökopark Hartberg, Styria, Austria. Held January 26, it marks the start of the construction of an EUR 16 million industrial plant based on its innovative algae reactor system for the production of algae biomass.
Projects like this are the best way to strengthen the Styrian regions. They provide benefits, jobs and thus the quality of life. I am pleased that with the groundbreaking ceremony today, the starting signal for an important investment in the future is being made. I am sure this project will further accelerate the development of green technologies in Styria, said Minister of Economic Affairs, Barbara Eibinger-Miedl.
After years of research, BDI says that it has succeeded in developing its proprietary production system and in scaling it up to industrial size. Planning, building and operating its industrial algae production plant marks BDI’s first step into this business sector as raw material producer.
As the Mayor of the municipality of Hartberg, I am very pleased that this innovative and future-oriented production facility will be part of another development milestone of the Hartberg Ecopark, said Markus Martschitsch, Mayor of Hartberg.
Initially, BDI – BioLife Science GmbH will produce algae-based raw materials for nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
With the establishment of BDI at the Ecopark, a good business expansion has been achieved in the corporate cluster “Environmental Technology from Renewable Resources”. The Ecopark is pleased to have convinced with its orientation and the complete range of services. The development of further joint projects in cooperation with different partners from science and the regional economy is planned and will be tackled, said Stefan Lorenzoni, CEO of Ökopark Errichtungs GmbH.
