Spain-headed natural gas refueling technology developer, gas distributor and service provider HAM Group have opened the first gas service station in Mérida, Extremadura that utilizes a double compressed natural gas (CNG) pump, for light vehicles and trucks, and a double liquefied natural gas (LNG) pump for trucks. The innovative dual-fuel system of LNG and CNG, designed and
manufactured by HAM, allows two vehicles to be refueled at the same time from a single pump.
Located in Mérida, off the A-5 or Southwest motorway, also known as the Extremadura highway, one of the six radial highways found in Spain, the new service station is of strategic importance since it will allow refueling of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to vehicles that make the route between Madrid and Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.
In addition, the route of the A-5 unites the autonomous communities of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, and Extremadura, and the refueling station is also on the intersection with the A66, which runs from north to south of Extremadura, and that links Seville with Oviedo.
According to HAM, the company was one of the first to supply LNG for industrial use in Spain and in 2000, it opened its first LNG refueling station for the transport sector. With the opening of the first gas station in Extremadura, in Mérida, HAM currently has 30 gas stations in Spain, Italy, and Slovenia “confirming its commitment” to CNG and LNG as an alternative fuel that minimizes the negative impact on the environment and air quality while reducing fuel costs compared to fossil diesel fuels.
