Finland-headed combustion technology providers KPA Unicon Oy has announced that it has been awarded a contract by Olvi Oyj, a compatriot beverage major, to supply a 4.5 MWth biomass-fired steam boiler plant to Iisalmi, Finland.

According to a statement, the new Unicon Biograte boiler plant will utilize local wood-processing by-products, mainly bark, sawdust, and woodchips. Steam and heat generated by the plant will be used for the production processes of Olvi’s brewery in Iisalmi. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.
The delivery will be carried out on a turnkey basis, including also a service contract that guarantees the provision of the responsible energy solution based on KPA Unicon values enabling the use of domestic renewable fuel with high efficiency and usability. The new plant will be handed over to the customer in January 2018.
Olvi is delighted and proud to say that in the future the energy needed by Iisalmi’s production facility will be generated with local renewable fuel. Responsibility and environmental values are of great importance to Olvi and by the new energy investment, we will support these values naturally. Added value occurs also through the implementation of the investment by local companies using energy industry expertise represented by our partner company KPA Unicon Oy, said Lauri Multanen, Production Manager of Olvi Oyj.
The parent company of Olvi Group, Olvi Oyj is the only remaining brewery that remains in independent Finnish ownership and has subsidiaries in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Belarus. The total production in 2016 was 178.0 million liters.
The new energy generation unit will be manufactured at KPA Unicon’s workshop in Kiuruvesi. The plant will be delivered to the site in pre-fabricated modules ensuring a high level of factory readiness and quality. The contract includes also KPA Unicon`s PlantSys system for remote control of the plant with the possibility of using modern mobile applications. The boiler plant will be equipped with Unicon Condenser scrubber, which both cleans the flue gases and recovers the heat.
It is a matter of honour for us to deliver the new steam boiler plant to Olvi. We appreciate Olvi’s traditions, value system, and sustained efforts. Moreover, an excellent addition to the project and the service contract is the cooperation of two companies from the same region and the fact, that we will be supporting the production process of Olvi’s excellent products, said Jussi Räty, Project manager of KPA Unicon.
