Northern Energy reveal Miramichi pellet plant plans

In Canada, Northern Energy Solutions Ltd has held a public hearing on the company's proposed wood pellet project in Miramichi, New Brunswick.

According to local media reports, Northern Energy Solutions Ltd plans to build and operate a 275 000 tonne-per-annum wood pellet plant in Miramichi, New Brunswick. The plant is to be built at the former UPM kraft mill that closed in December 2007.

The plant is to use sawmill residuals including bark from nearby sawmill operations along with pulpwood and logging residues. Planned to be operational in 2021, the pellets will be destined for export to the European utility markets for which negotiations for offtake agreements are in progress.

The company is due to submit an industrial permit application to local authorities later this month.
