B:Power has inaugurated and commenced the operation of a novel biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant in the Czech medieval town of Bouzov.
At the end of September, Czech engineering and integrated energy technology solutions provider, B:Power inaugurated and commenced operation of a novel biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant in the Czech medieval town of Bouzov.
The plant, which supplies district heating to the town including to part of its world famous 14th century Bouzov Castle, replaces an existing biomass heating boiler that remains as backup. Built adjacent to the old boiler on the premises of an agricultural cooperative, the new CHP consists of a 1.5 MWth woodchip fired hot flue boiler and a 110 kWe output Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) unit.
The high temperature ORC, supplied by Dutch company Triogen, utilises the hot flue gases from the boiler, supplied by Czech manufacturer Fiedler Zdeněk spol. s ro before passing the heat exchanger for the district heating circuit. The electricity produced by the ORC is used on site by the cooperative.
The system concept has generated a lot of interest with rural municipalities in Central Europe with representatives from Slovakia, Bulgaria and Hungary attending the inauguration ceremony.
