KPA Unicon to supply Espoo biomass boiler plant to Fortum
Finland-headed combustion technology providers KPA Unicon Oy has announced that it has been selected by Fortum Oyj to design and supply a fluidized bed (FB) boiler plant to Fortum in Kivenlahti in Espoo, Finland.
As announced by Fortum, the company is investing EUR 40 million in a new biomass-fired heat plant in Kivenlahti, Espoo. The construction of the plant is a significant step towards carbon neutral district heating production in Espoo, as the plant will allow for the decommissioning of an old coal-fired boiler in Suomenoja.
KPA Unicon will supply a 49 MW Unicon Renefluid bio boiler plant complete with flue gas condenser and a heat pump which will enable the production of up 58 MW of district heat thanks to the flue gas condenser and heat pump. Construction of the plant starts in Kivenlahti in November, and the plant will be handed over to Fortum in 2020.
We are very excited about this opportunity to take Espoo towards carbon neutral district heating production. It is important for us to ensure the cleanliness and high efficiency of energy production, said Timo Aspelin, Sales Manager, KPA Unicon.
