BerQ RNG, an innovative developer, owner, and operator of renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities headquartered in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, has announced that it has completed the acquisition of a portfolio of biogas assets in the United States from Sevana Bioenergy LLC.
The transaction includes the Rialto Bioenergy Facility, an organic waste anaerobic digestion-to-RNG facility located in Rialto, California, together with a pipeline of dairy and swine manure RNG development projects in Idaho, California, and Kansas.
The transaction, the value of which has not been disclosed, diversifies BerQ RNG’s current portfolio, both in terms of feedstock and geography, and underscores BerQ’s experience as a multi-feedstock RNG platform.
Unique project
The Rialto Bioenergy Facility is designed to process up to 1,000 tonnes per day of food waste diverted from municipal solid waste (MSW) streams, liquid organic waste, and municipal biosolids, and has the capacity to produce up to 1 million MMBtu of RNG annually.
The facility is connected directly to the Southern California Gas Company pipeline network through a dedicated pipeline injection facility.
By diverting organic waste from landfills, the facility helps Southern California jurisdictions meet the organic waste diversion requirements of California Senate Bill 1383 and supports the state’s goals for reducing short-lived climate pollutants.
The Rialto Bioenergy Facility is a unique, large-scale asset that fits squarely within our strategy of owning and operating high-impact RNG infrastructure across North America. We look forward to applying our operating expertise to optimize performance at Rialto, working closely with the City of Rialto, our feedstock partners and the local community, and to advancing the development projects in Idaho, California and Kansas, said Bas van Berkel, CEO of BerQ RNG.
