China-headed biomass combustion technology providers DP CleanTech has announced that it signed and commenced a contract for boiler modification and optimization of an existing 25 MWe CHP biomass plant owned and operated by Energa Kogeneracja Sp. z o.o. in Elblag, Poland. The contract for the Elblag plant was awarded as a result of a public tender to DP CleanTech, and the aim is to optimize the installation to achieve the designed availability, stable operation and to maximise efficiency.
The Elblag CHP plant was originally co-financed by the European Union (EU) to increase the security of municipal heat supply, upgrade the local infrastructure and increase installed capacity. The plant was commissioned in 2014, but experienced operational problems which compromised these objectives.
DP CleanTech was appointed as a technical consultant to help identify the issues that were compromising the boiler availability and stability, steam production capacity and efficiency.
The BB20p plant did not achieve the required operational parameters during operation, and we undertook the exercise to make significant improvements. We carried out a public tender, and the solution proposed by DP CleanTech met our priorities for increasing plant efficiency in a sustainable manner, said Krzysztof Żochowski, President of Energa Kogeneracja sp. z o.o.
According to DP CleanTech, significant reconstruction of key components are needed to meet the objectives and deliver required performance levels requires. DP’s winning proposal consists of a complete exchange of the combustion system; including feeding system, grate, grate drive, and slag conveyor. In addition, a modification of the boiler 2nd pass will result in a 25 percent increase overall of the heating exchange surface.
Our Polish and global engineering colleagues worked closely with the customer to identify the problems which have prevented optimum plant performance. Our well-validated solutions have clearly met Energa’s economic, performance and technical criteria. Our emphasis will now be on working with Energa to ensure a smooth execution and minimal installation downtime, remarked Simon Parker, CEO, DP CleanTech.
