Viva Energy Australia Pty Ltd (Viva Energy) has announced that it has joined peak national body Bioenergy Australia as a major member."We have ethanol and biodiesel blending facilities in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria, and see opportunities to work more closely with suppliers, customers, and stakeholders to help improve the viability of the industry and support demand for these renewable fuels", said Scott Wyatt, CEO, Viva Energy.

According to Scott Wyatt, the decision to join Bioenergy Australia supports the company’s’ existing investment in biofuels distribution and that the company has “shown a strong commitment” to supporting biofuel initiatives around the country having invested more than AU$20 million into biofuel projects.
Most recently this has included establishing a range of supply agreements with local biofuels producers and the construction and commissioning of a new biofuels blending facility in Queensland.
Development and supply of sustainable aviation fuels is also a focus to support aviation customers and their sustainability targets. Viva Energy’s aim is to collaborate with them and technology providers to assess viability and establish a pathway to long term supply.
We understand the need to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions, and we are already working across the company and with our customers to pursue opportunities in these areas, Scott Wyatt said.
Bioenergy Australia is the national industry association for Australia’s current and future bioeconomy, committed to accelerating Australia’s transition to sustainable energy and product solutions by driving both visibility and activity within the bio sector.
Shahana McKenzie CEO, of Bioenergy Australia, welcomed Viva Energy to the association becoming the only major traditional fuel supplier to the membership and looks forward to working actively with Viva Energy Australia on key initiatives in the biofuels sector.
Viva Energy’s membership of BioEnergy Australia is a testament to the company’s forward-thinking and acknowledgment of the growing momentum within the community and with commercial customers to improve environmental outcomes, Shahana McKenzie said.
Aviation fuels from biomass offer a huge opportunity for airlines who have committed to adopting sustainable aviation fuels as part of their plans to reduce greenhouse gases and Viva Energy as a major supplier of aviation fuels has an important role to play in their commercial application.
