Austria-headed environmental technology providers Scheuch GmbH has announced that it has been selected by energy provider Adven Sweden to supply a flue gas cleaning unit for a new 30 MW recycled wood-fired steam boiler at Arctic Paper Munkedal in Sweden. The new cleaning unit will help Adven to fulfill the latest emission regulations as well as reduce the total environmental impact.
In March 2019, Adven Sweden, part of Adven Group signed a long-term process heat supply agreement with Arctic Paper Munkedal, a facility belonging to the European paper company Arctic Paper SA. This agreement included a new 30 MWth biomass-fired steam boiler to replace an existing fossil gas boiler at the paper mill.
The biomass plant will use recycled wood as fuel and Scheuch’s turnkey delivery consists of a dry sorption system in combination with a wet scrubber. With this solution, the operational costs can be optimized and the upcoming BAT-AEL regulation will be fulfilled.
The first delivery will take place in November 2021 and the plant will be ready for operation in the spring of 2022.

According to Hermansson, in this specific project, a dry flue gas cleaning using Ca(OH)2/NaHCO3 and activated carbon is connected upstream of a wet scrubber system.
With this combination, all required emission limit values or emission standards will be met at any time, and maximum system availability will be achieved. In addition, operating costs are reduced to a minimum.
