Austria-headed international technology group Andritz AG (ANDRITZ) has announced that it has received an order from UK-headed pulp and paper major Mondi plc for an upgrade of the evaporation plant at its Mondi Frantschach mill, Austria.

Mondi Frantschach produces high-quality packaging paper, including sack kraft paper and machine-glazed specialty kraft paper. The mill also produces specialty market pulp.
In November 2021, the company announced that it was investing EUR 20 million to further improve the sustainability of its pulp production at the Frantschach mill. The mill, which celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2021, has already been self-sufficient in terms of energy for many years and supplies surrounding communities and industrial companies with surplus heat from the pulp production process.
The upgrade to the new plant components will allow even more efficient and sustainable pulp production. The state-of-the-art ANDRITZ equipment increases the amount of heat extracted and thus reduces the need for steam.
The scope of supply for the project includes two new evaporation units, a secondary surface condenser, new pumps, vapor ducts, and circulation pipes. At the same time, the environmental impact is further reduced by lowering the chemical oxygen demand (COD) for biological wastewater treatment.
The start-up for the delivery, the value of which has not been disclosed, is scheduled for October 2023.
