At the recently concluded COP28 climate conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), major announcements were made that will have far-reaching implications for the global energy system. To shed light on important challenges and opportunities within this field, the World Bioenergy Association (WBA), partnering with Bioenergy International has announced the upcoming Spring 2024 webinar series.
Some of the key agreements reached in Dubai at COP28 include tripling renewable energy capacity globally, doubling energy efficiency improvements, phasing down unabated coal, accelerating efforts towards net zero, as well as (crucially) transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems.
As the world moves towards rapidly scaling up renewables and transitioning away from fossil fuels, bioenergy will play a crucial role.
According to various net zero pathways, the sector is expected to represent almost 20 percent of the total energy supply by 2050 which presents a great opportunity for countries around the world.
At the same time, the scale and pace of transformation will have challenges.
To shed light on important challenges and opportunities within this field, the World Bioenergy Association (WBA), partnering with Bioenergy International, has announced the upcoming Spring 2024 webinar series.
This three-part series highlights the crucial role of bioenergy in global energy transformation.
Modern bioheat for industry
To be held on February 27, the first webinar in the 2024 series, “Modern Renewable Heat using Biomass for Industries“, will showcase bioenergy as a solution for providing modern and renewable heat for industries.
This webinar will explore the various pathways for replacing fossil heat demand with bioheat in industry, including hard-to-abate industries such as lime and cement, iron and steel, and non-ferrous metals as well as food- and beverage industries.
The webinar will also discuss the latest technology developments and policy and regulatory frameworks that may impact these industries.
Role of liquid biofuels
The future of liquid biofuels in decarbonizing different industries such as transport and off-grid sectors will be the major focus of the second webinar in the series.
“The Future of Liquid Biofuels” webinar is scheduled for April 30, 2024, and aims to thoroughly explore the pivotal role of liquid biofuels in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in different sectors such as transport and off-grid energy, among others.
The session will emphasize their importance across the road, maritime, aviation, and off-grid sectors, delving into different biofuel solutions such as bioethanol, biodiesel, HVO, DME, and others.
Carbon Dioxide Removal technologies
The third webinar, “Role of Bioenergy in Atmospheric CO2 Removal“, is scheduled for June 18, 2024, and will explore the significance of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies.
With a specific emphasis on the role of bioenergy in CDR, it aims to provide valuable insights into bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) related projects from around the world.
It will also cover the latest changes in policies, regulations, finance, and technology within the industry.
All the webinars will include leading industry experts who will share case studies of existing projects or examples worldwide, as well as future opportunities.
The webinars are free to attend, but prior registration is required.
