In Japan, Ozu Biomass Power Co., Ltd. (OBP) has announced that it has held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Ozu Biomass Power Plant marking the start of construction for the 50 MW plant.

The Ozu Biomass Power plant is sponsored by a consortium comprising MAEDA CORPORATION, Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX), Yonden Business Co.,Inc., and SHINKO DENSO Co., Ltd. The 50 MWe capacity plant is being built in the industrial park of Nagahama-area, Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture.

It will use wood pellets imported from overseas for fuel with approximately 350 GWh per year of power sold to Shikoku Electric Power Transmission & Distribution Co., Inc. (YONDEN T&D) based on the Feed-in tariffs scheme (FIT) for renewable energy.

Commercial operations of Ozu Biomass Power are scheduled to commence in August 2024.

The business entity and sponsors will contribute to the expansion of the use of electricity derived from renewable energy sources with lower environmental impact and the development of local economies for carbon neutrality, with understanding and support from local communities in the Ozu area.
