The World Bioenergy Association (WBA) has announced a series of four free-to-attend webinars in the first half of 2025. Organized in collaboration with Bioenergy International, and other partner organizations these webinars will address key topics, including small-scale bioenergy applications, certification, carbon markets, and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

Taking place on March 18, 2025, the first webinar – Small-scale biomass applications for clean cooking – will be co-organized with the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) and will delve into the benefits of micro-gasification technologies in contributing to SDG 7’s goal: ensuring universal energy access.

Microgasification technologies, especially in developing contexts, have proven to be viable ways of converting biomass to clean energy for applications like cooking and heating, and this webinar with GBEP will discuss the opportunities of microgasification for decentralized bioenergy systems with real-world case studies, experts, and project developers.

The second webinar – What It Takes to Produce and Deliver Sustainability-Certified Biomass – will take place on April 29, 2025, and will showcase the latest developments in the certification of biomass value chains and how it supports bioenergy businesses worldwide.

From forest management and feedstock sourcing to production and end-use, ensuring sustainability at every stage of the biomass value chain is essential for meeting climate goals and supporting sustainable development. This webinar will explore the essential requirements for sustainability certification in the biomass industry, the practical implications for companies, and how certification systems are evolving to meet future demands.

The third webinar in the series – Carbon markets – can bioenergy projects benefit financially from saving CO2 emissions? – will be held on May 27, 2025, and it will highlight how bioenergy projects can benefit from the emerging carbon credit markets. With significant progress made at COP29, including a clearer framework for carbon markets under the Paris Agreement, there’s growing attention on innovative solutions like biogenic carbon dioxide (bioCO2) utilization.

Bioenergy projects are particularly well-positioned to tap into these opportunities by reducing CO2 emissions and participating in voluntary and compliant carbon markets. This webinar will explore how bioenergy projects can benefit financially from these carbon credit systems and feature insights from industry leaders, carbon market experts, and technology innovators, offering a deeper understanding of how bioenergy projects can navigate the complexities of carbon markets and capitalize on the emerging opportunities for bioCO2 solutions.

To be held on June 24, 2025, the final webinar in the series – Sustainable Aviation Fuels – What would it take for SAF to take off?  – will be co-organized with the Asia SAF Association (ASAFA). This webinar will explore the latest advancements in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production, adoption, and policy support and discuss the challenges and opportunities of scaling SAF, its role in achieving net-zero aviation, and the critical steps needed to drive global adoption.
