Australian integrated essential service provider AGL Group has revealed that it is "set to complete" the acquisition of a compatriot provider of biogas plants for commercial and industrial customers in Australia, subject to customary conditions being met.

In a bid to support high emission industries’ transition to a cleaner future, AGL is set to complete the acquisition of Energy 360 Pty Ltd (Energy360), subject to customary conditions being met.

AGL Chief Customer Officer, Christine Corbett said zero-emissions gases like biomethane have an important role to play in Australia’s decarbonization, providing a reliable and low-emissions source of energy.

As Australia’s energy transition continues to move at pace, we want to ensure we are offering our customers the most innovative energy solutions so they can lower costs and achieve their sustainability goals, Christine Corbett said.

Headquartered in Carrum Downs, Victoria (VIC), Energy360 is a leading provider of solutions for sustainable energy systems, producing biogas through the break-down of residue organic materials in an oxygen-free environment.

This provides an effective renewable solution for commercial and industrial customers within the agricultural, landfill, food processing, and waste management industries.

We know high-emissions businesses with high-temperature process requirements are looking for the best solutions that maintain reliability but also allow them to achieve sustainable operations now and into the future, said Christine Corbett.

AGL is already Australia’s largest provider of commercial solar, and with this acquisition, we are expanding the range of sustainable business energy solutions we can offer our commercial customers. This sustainable energy solution will complement our existing solar and battery products, helping customers on the path to decarbonization Christine Corbett said.

Opportunities for biofuels and renewable gases

Australia’s Bioenergy Roadmap Report outlines major opportunities for biofuels in Australia, with renewable, zero-emissions gases seen to play a significant role in decarbonization.

Bioenergy is a growing industry and one we expect to accelerate over the next decade while also contributing significantly to regional local economies. We welcome the expertise of the Energy360 team as they become a part of AGL, strengthening the products and services we can offer our business customers, said Christine Corbett.

Energy360 CEO, Samantha Lamond said as Australia’s leading biogas handling company, Energy360 is excited to form a partnership with AGL’s renewable energy strategy and redefine the energy landscape in Australia.

It fits that one of Australia’s largest investors in renewable energy is committed to investing in renewable gas for a zero-carbon future. There are some enormous opportunities for businesses to engage with this proven zero-emissions, renewable gas solution, and we are very excited to be partnering with AGL to deliver this technology, Samantha Lamond said.

Energy360 will form part of AGL Australia following AGL Energy’s proposed demerger this year.
