According to statistics from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), there are a total of 34 975 residential oil-fired boilers that are still in regular use or on standby when needed. The corresponding figure for pellet-fired boilers is 82 257. "Renewable energy is the key to addressing climate change. Therefore, it is good that so many homeowners chose a pellet boiler and heat their house with residual forest products," says Peter Granborn, CEO of Scandbio AB.
With seven production facilities in Sweden and one in Latvia, Scandbio is Sweden’s largest wood pellet producer. According to statistics from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), there are a total of 34 975 residential oil-fired boilers that are still in regular use or on standby when needed. The corresponding figure for pellet-fired boilers is 82 257. This means there are about 40 pellet boilers per 1 000 single-family homes.
However, the proportion of pellet boilers varies greatly between the counties. Dalarna tops the ranking with about 80 pellet boilers per 1 000 houses whereas at the bottom, in Stockholm county the corresponding figure is only 11. The counties of Västra Götaland, Skåne and Stockholm account for over half – 17 980 – of the residential oil boilers that are still in service.
