Finnish food industry major Apetit Oyj has announced that it will go ahead and build a 4.5 MW biomass-fired heat plant at the Avena Kantvik Oy rapeseed oil milling plant in Kirkkonummi, Finland following the receipt of the environmental permit for the project.
According to a statement, an agreement on the implementation of the biomass heat plant project has been signed and the plant is targeted to be completed in October 2020. Apetit originally announced plans for the construction of the bioheat plant in August 2018.
The cost of the investment has been revised from the previous EUR 3.7 million to EUR 5.2 million. Apetit had been awarded an investment grant of up to EUR 350 000 for the project from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland in August 2018.
The total amount of investment aid has now been increased to about EUR 490 000 to reflect the adjusted costs of the project.
The bioenergy plant replaces the current energy solution that uses non-renewable fuels and would significantly reduce the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of the entire Group. It also increases the energy self-sufficiency of the plant.
