In the United States (US), Avflight Mesa, an Avfuel branded Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) in Mesa, Arizona in partnership with aviation fuel supplier Avfuel Corporation, has announced it now offers sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as an option.
The first truckload of SAF arrived at Avflight Mesa (KFFZ) on August 28, 2024. The introduction of a consistent SAF supply elevates Avflight Mesa as a leader in eco-conscious aviation operations and enables its customers to immediately and significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Located at Arizona’s Falcon Field Airport (FFZ), Avflight Mesa is the first of Avflight’s 26 locations to offer SAF. It also marks Avfuel’s 30th location to provide consistent SAF supply, and the second location in the Grand Canyon State Avfuel has brought online this summer.
We are incredibly excited to offer SAF at our Mesa location. The addition of SAF to Avflight Mesa’s overall sustainability initiatives furthers our commitment to reducing the production of greenhouse gasses and provides our customers the opportunity to work toward their sustainability goals, said Aaron Mauer, Senior Regional Manager for Avflight.
The fuel—produced by Neste in Long Beach, California, and branded as “Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel”—averages one of the highest blend ratios available in business aviation to date (30/70 SAF to petroleum-based jet fuel).
Each 8,000-gallon truckload delivery provides a 19-tonne reduction in carbon emissions over the fuel’s lifecycle.
Avfuel, headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has supplied Avflight Mesa since first acquiring the FBO in 2020. The sister companies have worked extensively together to fulfill Avflight Mesa’s fuel needs and support its sustainability initiatives for a brighter, cleaner world.
We’re thrilled Avflight chose Mesa as a launching point for a more sustainable future. This move complements Mesa’s Climate Action Plan aimed at protecting Mesa’s environment and natural resources. With Falcon Field growing every day, SAF will play an important role in supporting the airfield’s increased operations while reducing overall emissions, said Corinne Nystrom, Falcon Field’s Airport Director.
Adding SAF to Avflight Mesa’s portfolio supports Avflight’s broader, network-wide initiative to promote sustainable aviation operations.
Beyond SAF at FFZ, this has included network-wide certification under NATA’s Sustainability Standard for its US locations and working with BETA Technologies to install electric charging stations in key locations.
