Norway-based natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) distributor Barents NaturGass AS has signed an agreement with Swedegas AB to supply LNG to a new bunkering facility currently under construction in the Port of Gothenburg, Sweden.
According to a statement, the Swedish gas Transmission System Operator (TSO) Swedegas will own and operate the liquefied gas bunkering facility, and Barents NaturGass will supply the LNG with ISO-containers from main European terminals.
Construction of the Gothenburg’s first LNG bunkering facility at the Energy Port has begun and the facility is expected to become operational in 2018. Swedegas says that the facility could be expanded over time in line with the market growth and that it is also ready for the supply of renewable liquefied biogas (LBG).
Gothenburg-based shipping companies have been amongst the first to adopt LNG in Sweden. Several vessels have already been built and launched which are ready to run on LNG.
We are keen to start our LNG supply services and meet the customer’s needs, said Gudrun Rollefsen, CEO of Barents NaturGass.
