Bio-En Power orders grit removal technology from Cellwood

Canada-headed biogas plant builder and operator Bio-En Power Inc., has placed an order with Cellwood Machinery Inc., a subsidiary of Sweden-headed Cellwood Group for a High Density Cleaner for removal of grit from biogas substrate. The High Density Cleaner will be installed in Bio-En Power’s biogas plant in Elmira, Ontario where 70 000 tonnes of organic waste is processed annually.

The Bio-En Power plant covers the full process from pre-treatment of organic waste to anaerobic digestion (AD) of the substrate, and generation of electricity from the biogas. The pre-treatment process is based on a hammer mill, and also includes a Deflaker from Cellwood.

However, the incoming organic waste includes particles from sand and glass which remain as contaminants in the processed substrate. According to Cellwood, its High Density Cleaner (HDC) continuously removes these particles from the substrate and prevents them from accumulating in storage tanks and digesters.

This frees a considerable amount of space in the digesters and prevents the need for costly maintenance stops for cleaning tanks and digesters manually. The plant is an example of how existing hammer mill processes can be upgraded with stand-alone machines from the company such as Deflakers and High Density Cleaners.
