Dutch clean energy technology provider Bright Renewables has recently announced that it has been contracted by Germany biogas plant operator VORN Bioenergy GmbH to supply and install a carbon dioxide liquefaction plant in Brandis, Germany.

Construction of the carbon dioxide (CO2) liquefaction plant for VORN Bioenergy in Brandis is already underway, and project completion is estimated for the fall of 2024.

The scope of supply, the value of which has not been disclosed, includes a CO2 liquefaction system featuring two 70 m3 CO2 storage tanks and the latest software and control system with a liquid CO2 analyzer.

The liquefaction plant will produce 1,200 kg per hour of liquefied biogenic carbon dioxide (bioLCO2) with a purity of 99.9 percent.

VORN Bioenergy will market their generated bioLCO2 and supply this to their partner.

This project will be the first to be realized from our valued collaboration with VORN Bioenergy. Similar to Bright, VORN Bioenergy recognizes the increasingly vital role of sustainable energy in the modern energy mix. With our sustainable energy technology, we aim to drive the energy transition, said Peter Kemink, a representative for the German market at Bright Renewables.

Innovative CO2 liquefaction solution

The Bright CO2 liquefier features a containerized design, minimizes construction time on site, and results in a quick installation.

Furthermore, the system has an innovative cooling design that uses CO2 as a refrigerant (R744). This means that the technology uses natural refrigerants to liquefy the biogenic carbon dioxide.

This design has the least impact on the environment when compared to other more polluting refrigerants.

Additionally, the use of natural refrigerants also optimizes energy consumption, making it a more sustainable and cost-effective solution.

This collaboration enhances our mission to drive the energy transition. Bright’s CO2 liquefaction technology supports our expertise in driving energy efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and maximizing economic performance. The quality of Bright’s equipment ensures that our operations are not only efficient but also meet our high standards of reliability and performance. The added benefit of producing high-purity bio-CO2 and a lower carbon footprint aligns seamlessly with our goals of sustainability and excellence in the biomethane sector, said Frank Gold, Director of Asset Management at VORN Bioenergy.
