Austria-headed international technology group Andritz AG (ANDRITZ) has announced that it has received an order from Chung Hwa Pulp Corporation to supply environmentally leading chemical recovery technologies for its pulp mill in Hualien, Taiwan.

Founded in 1968, Chung Hwa Pulp Corporation (CHP) is a Taiwan-based company specializing in the manufacture and sale of pulp, paper, and related products.

The company has selected ANDRITZ to supply a suite of chemical recovery technologies for its Hualien pulp mill. Scheduled for the second quarter of 2027, the value of the order has not been disclosed.

The equipment and solutions from ANDRITZ will enable us to maximize our mill’s operational efficiency while minimizing resource use and maintaining low emission levels, said Chang Mingyih, Project Manager at Hualien mill of Chung Hwa Pulp Corporation.

According to a statement, the ANDRITZ scope of supply includes:

  • A new recovery boiler designed for a capacity of 1,400 tds/d with steam parameters of 105 bar(a) and 515°C. The state-of-the-art recovery boiler will enable efficient chemical recovery with low emissions and significantly increase the mill’s renewable energy production. The boiler features digitalization products such as advanced process controls.
  • Lo-NOx recovery boiler solution to achieve minimum dust and NOx emissions from the boiler while maintaining high energy efficiency. This solution is part of ANDRITZ’s CircleToZero initiative, which aims for zero emissions and zero waste production.
  • A new ash leaching plant integrated into the recovery boiler, with a capacity of 108 t/d. The plant will reduce chlorine and potassium levels, and also recover valuable chemicals.
  • An energy-efficient black liquor evaporation plant with a capacity of 377 t/h. ANDRITZ’s easy-to-clean lamella heating surfaces ensure high availability and easy operation. The evaporation plant also includes advanced process controls.

This is the first ANDRITZ chemical recovery technology delivery to Taiwan.
