According to a statement, the 74.9 MWe output Buzen New Energy biomass power plant is to be built on the premises of Kyushu High-Pressure Concrete Industry Co. Ltd in Buzen City, Fukuoka Prefecture on the Japanese island of Kyushu.

The proposed site is in close proximity to an existing power station, Kyushu Electric Buzen Power Plant and is said to be one of the largest dedicated domestic woody biomass power generation projects to date.

Start of construction for the estimated JPY 25 billion (≈ EUR 190 million) project is planned for March 2017 and expected to be completed in late 2019. The plant will require an estimated 300 000 tonnes per annum of biomass fuel in the form of palm kernel shells (PKS) and wood pellets.
