Swedish biomass gasification technology developer Cortus Energy AB (Cortus) has disclosed that it has received two orders for biomass gasifiers from Germany.
Cortus Energy AB has received orders for the construction and process equipment for two biomass gasifiers with burners and gas coolers/boilers for the German companies blueFLUX Energy AG and Holzner Druckbehalter GmbH.
These first two orders have a value of approximately SEK 6 million (≈ EUR 573 000) and the full value of the two projects is up to SEK 75 million (≈ EUR 7.2 million) depending on the final scope of delivery.
Novel hydrolysis technology
Founded in 2020, blueFLUX Energy AG has developed a novel hydrolysis technology for the production of biocarbon/biochar or other high-quality energy sources such as green synthesis gas, green hydrogen, biomethanol, and biomethane from organic residues with a dry matter of approximately 30 percent.
For scaling and rapid market entry, blueFLUX Energy is now partnering with Cortus to incorporate Cortus’s proprietary “WoodRoll” gasification technology into its process.
WoodRoll and Cortus are the right choice and combination for our hydrogen and energy gas projects where WoodRoll performance makes a big difference, said Hubert Kohler, CEO of blueFLUX Energy and owner of Holzner Druckbehalter.
First commercial projects
The Cortus gasifiers will be combined with the patented blueFLUX hydrolysis process. These are the customers’ first two commercial projects in Bavaria, Germany.
Engineering work is now beginning and the gasifiers are planned to be delivered during Q1 and Q2 2023.
The first is a 0.5 MW unit for a green hydrogen project and the second is a 6 MW unit to replace fossil gas in heating furnaces with synthesis gas in a brick producer – similar to the Cortus project in Höganäs, Sweden.
With its WoodRoll gasification technology, Cortus has demonstrated how carbon from pyrolysis can be gasified in water vapor at high temperature to a very pure syngas.
It is Cortus Energy’s unique technology that has now found a new application in blueFLUX Energy’s solution.
It is extremely gratifying that blueFlux Energy and Holzner Druckbehalter have chosen WoodRoll and Cortus as their gasification partners for their first project and pipeline line going forward, said Rolf Ljunggren, Founder of Cortus Energy.
The parties are planning for increased cooperation and are also negotiating a license agreement for expansion and future projects.
Cortus’ unique technical platform gives us business opportunities that take the business forward and generate revenue already this year, said Håkan Sigfridsson, CEO of Cortus Energy.
